Summary
Talk Like is a local-first, privacy-first communication practice app. As described on the TalkLike overview page, your practice sessions, transcripts, timed segments, multi-dimensional scores, coaching insights, and optional audio recordings are stored on your iPhone (SwiftData and the app sandbox). We do not operate a Talk Like user account or cloud sync. We do not send your recordings or transcripts to Talk Like servers for AI analysis. Scoring, filler detection, coaching, and transcript rewrites use on-device rules and templates by default—not a Talk Like cloud LLM. Optional On-device AI coaching uses Apple Intelligence on supported devices and stays on your iPhone.
By default, nothing leaves your iPhone for scoring. An optional Cloud scoring feature lets you paste your own OpenAI, Claude, or Gemini API key so that provider can rate confidence. Recordings are never uploaded. If you enable that option, transcript text and numeric metrics for that session go from this iPhone to the provider you choose. Opening Rewrite while Cloud scoring is on can send the same transcript once to generate four style variants, which are then saved on the session. Talks Inc does not receive your key or transcript. What the app collects and why
Audio you record. When you start a practice session, the app captures audio so it can be transcribed and analyzed on your device. By default, audio is kept on your phone until you delete the session. In About → Privacy & storage you can enable Delete audio after analysis to remove the file after successful transcription while keeping transcript and metrics. Audio is never sent to Talks Inc or to a Cloud scoring provider.
Transcripts and segments. Speech is converted to text with timing information so the app can compute pacing, filler highlights, speech timeline charts, and synchronized playback. Transcripts stay on the device unless you enable Cloud scoring, as described below.
Metrics and coaching. The app stores clarity, confidence, structure, conciseness, pacing, filler statistics, explainable score breakdowns, coaching insights, optional on-device Apple Intelligence coach notes on supported devices, and optional voice-energy samples when audio is still present.
Session metadata. Topics, scenario identifiers, drill completion, retry attempt indices, timestamps, and duration support history, comparison, Insights trends, and widgets.
Cloud scoring settings (optional). If you use Cloud scoring, the app stores on-device flags such as provider choice, consent version, and a last-four hint for a saved key. The API key itself is stored only in the iOS Keychain on this device. Talks Inc does not collect these values.
Where your data lives
Session data is stored on your device in the app’s sandbox. Uninstalling the app may delete that data according to iOS behavior. Widgets read a small summary snapshot (for example streak, confidence trend, today’s drill) from an App Group shared container between the main app and the widget extension—still on your device, not on Talk Like servers. API keys are not stored in that App Group or in iPhone backups.
Optional cloud scoring (user-supplied API key)
Cloud scoring is off until you save a secret API key, accept a written privacy notice in the app, and turn the feature on. Talk Like then may send that session’s transcript text and numeric metrics already computed on device to OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google—whichever provider you selected— for confidence scoring. If you open Rewrite while Cloud scoring is on, Talk Like can send the same transcript once to generate four style variants and save them on the session.
Legal basis. The transfer happens because you instructed the app to do so and accepted consent in the app. Talks Inc is not the processor of that inference: the request goes device → vendor. We still disclose it here because Talk Like initiates the connection from your iPhone.
Keys. Talks Inc does not receive, store, or bill your API key. The key is stored in the iOS Keychain on this iPhone only, protected by Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode, and is not included in iPhone backups.
How to withdraw. Turn off Cloud scoring, tap Remove key in About → Cloud scoring, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes the on-device key. If the iPhone is lost, revoke the key in your provider’s dashboard; Talk Like cannot remote-delete it. Processing already completed by the vendor remains subject to that vendor’s privacy policy.

Microphone & speech recognition
The app requests microphone and speech recognition access only for features you start (recording and on-device transcription). You can change permissions in iOS Settings.
On-device Apple Intelligence
If you leave On-device AI coaching on in About, Talk Like can use Apple Intelligence (Foundation Models) on supported devices to write a personalized coach note and richer rewrites. That processing stays on your iPhone and is separate from optional Cloud scoring. Classic templates remain the fallback on unsupported devices or when the toggle is off.
Widgets, Siri shortcuts, and deep links
Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets display summaries from your local practice data. Siri Shortcuts and App Intents open in-app flows you initiate; donations are managed by iOS. Any app deep links (for example from widgets or shortcuts) are handled only on your device. Cloud scoring does not run from Siri or App Intents.
Analytics, ads, and sale of data
Talk Like does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not sell your data. If Talks Inc adds analytics, crash reporting, or cloud services in a future version, this policy will be updated before those features ship.
Third parties
- Apple provides the operating system, App Store distribution, Speech framework, WidgetKit, App Intents, Keychain, on-device storage, and—on supported devices—on-device Apple Intelligence (Foundation Models) when you leave On-device AI coaching on.
- Links in the app or on this site may open Talks Inc web pages in Safari; those pages are governed by their own notices where applicable.
- OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google receive transcript text and numeric metrics only if you enable Cloud scoring and the app sends a request with your key (confidence scoring, and optionally four rewrite styles if you open Rewrite). They are not involved when the feature is off.
Children
Talk Like is not directed to children. Parents and guardians should manage device permissions and App Store controls for minors.
International users
If you use the app outside the United States, your device-stored data remains subject to your device security and local law. If you enable Cloud scoring, the provider you choose may process transcript text in the regions described in that provider’s privacy policy. Talks Inc is headquartered in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page when the product or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will be revised when we publish a material update. If what Cloud scoring sends changes, the in-app consent version is bumped and you must accept the notice again before the next cloud call.
